Interesting information. Peat, Perlite, Vermicultie, Pine bark are expensive mediums which will add considerably to the cost. Also there is heavy reliance on usage of fertlizers. Humidity as mentioned by Aykhan can make a big difference along with my breeze to permeating fragrance in the air.
Perhaps my nose is less sensitive to fragrance...

i have grown both grafted michelia alba and michelia golden champaca over the years. Fragrance of white alba is barely distinguishable and not worth spending the penny. The grafted Golden Champaca planted in ground bloomed but doesn't fare well in full sun and requires shade protection. Its fragranc...

I have been growing them. The tubers were replanted 10 days earlier and then will be taken out of their pots in November when dormancy sets in and these tubers will be stored in a box in a cupboard till end of March.
