Snails

Aoa . I recently noticed many snails in backyard garden eating leaves of new growing vegetables plants like cucumber ,mint , peppers . Gardener told me to spread salt on snails I tried but that didn't help much ,also salt burns plants and leaves too . Kindly suggest good remedies for eliminating snails .
