Ismene Sulphur Queen

Post by Heinie »

Here is one of my Ismene Sulphur Queen bulbs in flower with a very nice fragrance too. The cup of the flower has a diameter of 78mm and the petals behind are 141 across. The Ismene Sulphur Queen is one of my personal top ten flowers I grow amongst numerous bulbous plants.

Thank you for the explanation Farhan.

I bought a bulb from Ebay in the USA a few years ago. They become available from time to time and not expensive. They make pups regularly. It also has a very nice scent to it. Much like vanilla.

I wrote about our temps for Cape Town, in the south, where I recide on another topic. Where I live in Cape Town we get winter rain when it is very wet like now when we are experiencing night temps of about 8C and day temps vary much between 14 and 19C. During summer we average about 28C but occassinally hit the 40C marks. So no frost is experienced here.

This is a lot different to for example where the Boophone grows in its habitat, about 600km to the west, where winters can experience frost at night meaning below zero and summers as high as 45C during the day. It is quite normal that these areas get very little or no rain at all during the rainy season.

The north of RSA receive summer rains in the way of thunder storms. I hope the explanation is satisfactory.
