Hi,
I am thinking of setting up a hydroponic farm, but on a small scale for a start. I have read articles and studied about this topic and it has inspired me alot. I want to set up the system on my roof, and later will expand it. But can u please let me know of the investment i will have to do in the start? And where to buy all the essentials and the greenhouse?
Thanks

Why not aquaponic? For home based setup I think investment won't be high, find a used pvc bathtub and you will be good to go.

Read this article, guy mentioned in it(Abdul Aleem Shekhani) has set set up the system on the roof of his home in Karachi.

The set-up can cost anywhere between Rs1,200 and Rs1,500 and may even be cheaper if you reuse supplies.

S.Ahmed okay i agree to your thoughts and i think this is a better idea, but how is it possible that "The set-up can cost anywhere between Rs1,200 and Rs1,500 and may even be cheaper if you reuse supplies." ? Wont we need any grow boxes or a green house, as i am also looking forward of delivering the crop to 1 or 2 shops.

Well that set-up and cost mentioned was meant purely for home/personal use. You apparently want to do it on semi commercial basis whereas the guy in that article created the system just for personal consumption.

Instead of one used pvc bath tub you could go for 2 or 3 tubs or could use as many tubs/used empty blue chemical drums as you like according to your need. You will yourself have to decide how big setup you want to install and how much investment you want to do.Maybe you could create a small system and then gradually upgrade to bigger system if you are successful on smaller scale first.

You could inquire about price of air pump and water pump from some aquarium shop.

S.Ahmed thanks alot for the info, just 1 more thing, I hav read all the articles and none of them tell u the exact materials you will need to make a setup. My question is that where will the plants be put, will they be put in grow boxes like hydroponics or what? do we need extra LED lights and should we build a greenhouse?
Yes my plans are to start a small setup in the start so i could know a thing or two about this field and the will expand it.
