Why the deaths in Vinca
I have planted Vinca in containers, one or more plants in almost every pot has died or is close to it. the remaining in the same pot are healthy.
Five from this pot, even the smaller pots have the same type of mortality.
Two days after planting when all were looking healthy, an experienced Mali (I respect for his knowledge) said to me you will loose many, without any rhyme or reason. Well he was right.
Any one has an idea why it is so?
Arif

Re: Why the deaths in Vinca
Fungal problem... common with vinca in humid conditions... there is no cure for the dying plant but you can very easily prevent it by spraying fungicide on seedling.. this year i gave Alliette (Bayer) to a nurseryman near my home, he planted around 5000 (approx) seeds and was sure that merely 3000 will survive to flower/sell-able stage.. due to weekly spray of Alliette (for a month or so) not a single plant collapsed like this.. he had 5170 plants in total.. all survived..!!

Agreed with Izhar , in the past year I experienced this a lot with my vincas in pots , vincas despite of its many Plus is prone to fungal attack easily. Re-using potting soil caused me this problem.

Re: Why the deaths in Vinca
Rain, rain every day, 80% of my Vinca has perished. Some blame the variety, others the rain and some fungus. May be I should switch to some other plant.
Any suggestions?

Gompherina, Gaillardia... dwarf varieties for pots, tall for beds.. here in Karachi they are not affected by harsh sun and re-seeds themselves easily but not invasive... Dwarf ladybird cosmos is also good continuous flowering but it does not set seeds..
