I am curious on why people use raised beds to grow stuff in some countries. Is it a regional thing? What are the benefits of it? Will it be beneficial in Pakistan?

Raised beds are used when:

1) Local soil is infested with nematodes
2) Local soil has poor drainage
3) Local soil is too alkaline or saline

It is strictly area specific, in my area the soil is saline, but i use sunken beds rather then raised beds and it works great for me..

Sir this picture is of a small farm in usa. A family runs it in their city home. They have a facebook page which I follow. Their methods always fascinate me. Here is the link:

I have to ask, why do you use sunken beds? What advantages does it hold?

I used sunken beds so i did not have to use bed building materials... i just dug out the saline soil and filled the space with good quality soil mixed with manure... least labour was used and there was no bed building material cost also...

Osama, The picture is not of raised beds but of large container cultivation.
How you grow what you want to grow depends entirely on your environment and demand. IF YOU HAVE NO GOOD LOCAL SOIL YOU ARE FORCED TO USE CONTAINERS AND COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE MEDIUM. This is an example of small commercial venture supplying to a few what is required. wooden frames very cheep in USA would not be cost effective here. There are many cities in USA having population less than our small village, there they have small markets where small growers sell there produce.

We live in the land of rivers and have a soil found nowhere else, we have well drained soil and thus no requirement of raised beds.
