Best three fragrant plants

No no.. you just have to touch it very lightly and the fragrance is strong... it is common plant here in Karachi

And so are many other Herbs, to me a fragrant plant is the one which makes you aware of its presence to every passer by.

I agree the fragrance needs to be felt in the vicinity of the plant and with every wind gust.

This year I had a good flowering of Gardenia Florida and now Gardenia Thunbergia is on buds, many other plants bloomed with very good fragrance.
My choice for the best three is;
Motia, fragrance second to none, flowers profusely and for a long duration. For best result pick them in the evening and place them on a plate with some water, one dish in a room keeps the house fresh.
Quis Qualis, Blooms profusely three to four times a year and the yard is filled with fragrance specially in the evening.

Plumeria White with rounded leaves, One of the best fragrance, blooms profusely and for a long, long duration. A few flowers in room or car as a freshener.

My Artabotrys hexapetalis has left most fragrant plants behind. I would put it right there up in top three, maybe even number one since the dense fragrance can be felt for several yards!

SO it turns out story of ylang ylang is true

Indeed it is true. Ylang Ylang cannot be underestimated by any stretch of the imagination. However, requires hot weather, full sun, preferably humidity (can be maintained by watering in dry season) and needs multiple blooms. So it has to be in the ground and be allowed to grow for a year of two. These days I have noticed its intensity to match that of my huge Maria tree when in bloom. I recommend this shrubby vine outside a bedroom window so you can smell it in the evenings.

For the mere intensity of a pleasant fragrance I would say the top three in no particular order would be:

Motia
Ylang Ylang
Marwa

However if intensity alone is not an issue then there are so many plants which will knock you down just with exceptional quality of its fragrance:

-Various roses have various scents which is rare
-Various plumeria have various scents, again maybe only like in roses.
-Osmanthus fragrans
-citrus blooms
-Aglaia odorata
-All gardenias undoubtedly, almost on top due to quality of fragrance alone.
-Radermachera kunming (locally called kamini), really nice fragrance
-Quisqualis (my new favorite after it bloomed in my garden last year)

I am yet to try mock orange...

Mine a complete failure, the only flower it had,had very milled fragrance. I have decided to give it an other year.
