So please take it as a personal point of view which has been shared with the friend on the basis of "take it or leave it". Sage, please contact Changa Nursery Pattoki. You will get most of the roses mentioned in Cat A & B. Sir I am honoured. On comparative basis, hardly any rose does well in pot as compared to ground. I grow over 80 roses in pots (not as a choice but as a compulsion) and there is always some problem that I have to fight out. The same rose in ground performs much better and gives very few problems. So my first advise would be to grow roses in ground, if you really want them to perform. However, if you have chosen to go for pots out of some compulsion than I would recommend following roses. I am not recommending large size bushes from Cat A roses though they are excellent performers in ground and also those that are not available in Pattoki..... so recommending those that are small size, can be grown in pots and area available with either Changa or Thekedar.Muhammad Arif Khan wrote:THANK YOU KBW. In my view, No rose performs as well in hot summers or monsoon as it does in spring or mild summers (Skardu, Murree etc). For most roses, performance is best in spring and reasonably good in fall. Cat A are those roses that in my garden showed a reasonably good performance in summers and monsoon too. This means there blooms were still presentable and there was still some fragrance though both size and fragrance were not as good as they were in spring. However, they gave no trouble and were presentable. Cat B was a mix whereas Cat C roses either did not bloom in summers / monsoon or if they bloomed, they produced ugly looking small sized blooms with no or very mild fragrance.
In my humble experience, SECRET TO HAPPY ROSE GROWING LIES IN SELECTING THE CULTIVAR THAT PERFORMS THE BEST IN YOUR AREA AND NOT IN BUYING THE CULTIVAR THAT LOOKS MOST BEAUTIFUL TO YOU IN THE PHOTOS OR IN THE NURSERY. If both these things combine somewhere than you are lucky.....
From above, one might conclude that one would end up growing such roses that don't look nice but perform very well in our areas. NO. That is not true. There is so much variety available nowadays. You just need to be patient and you will get what grows well and looks stunning too.
