A New and Deadly Rose Virus

Be carefull what you import from abroad, in particular the USA as you could find all of your roses in your area decimated by this newly emerging and virulent rose disease for which there is currently no cure and it spreads rapidly in a hot dry climate.

It is known as Rose Rosette Disease and it is decimating whole swathes of roses in gardens, municipal collections and the wild alike. It also rapidly infects other roses in the area as it spreads very easily via wind currents. It apparently can remain carried in wild roses and other wild plants for several years consequently providing a source for reinfecting any new rose plantings.

If you see the symptoms (thin spindly growth, proliferation of thorns, weak reddish tinge growth of new stems) of it in any rose nursery then please avoid purchasing any plants from said nursery. If you see it in your garden then please act fast and destroy by uprooting and burning the whole plant.
