Well to be honest, being a practical farmer from last several years, I was cent percent right in fetching the word "Internet Scholars" because I had come across so many fellows in field with same attitude like our brother KBW mentioned. And I hope all others were on point too, but "roses ki batain karain aur hanse-khushi ki baat na ho" ye bi ZULAM ha ;)

Meri taraf say tamam "internet scholars" ko proposed flower garden ki taraf say aik aik bookay GIFT :)

Sir just for my information kindly could you describe internet scholars so that i specifically and all other should be able to avoid them :-)
Scholar tu scalar hota hay ... source can be books, internet, people and nature.
perception can be different about same thing(fact).

We should not personalise it. :)

INTER NET SCHOLAR, I like it even better than the term PSEUDO SPECIALIST .
There was a time when people believed that if it is in the paper it must be true, then they shifted to if it is on BBC it must be true, now we know better.
Inter net information to me is quite confusing even at time contradictory. Is the Amaryllis bulb kit provided by the repute able firms the correct method of growing Amaryllis?

You have just denied the very existence of this forum.:-)
Is every point of view in line or correct in this forum? Can't theories be wrong, Can't scholars be wrong. isn't search for correct knowledge more important than being right.

What is internet. Collection of some books, information, interactive point of views. Discussions. Perspectives. Is there an absolute knowledge in mankind/world????? Absolute knowledge is divine only.

This being said segregation of reasonable information is one's right and internet is not stopping from it.

I rest my case. With no further deliberation on the subject from my side

Nowadays people have easy access to a wealth of information via the world wide web, some of it is very good and usefull but we must keep an open mind,,,, ask ourselves who wrote the article, who provided the verified facts and who funded it.

The very same facts and information can be interpreted/presented in ways that mean very different things

Very rightly said.
I don't think anyone would deny this fact that internet is a very good and convenient source of information. It is very easy to access and contains very good, trash.... all types of info. But here we are not talking about the advantages or disadvantages of internet. Here we are talking about an attitude which has developed amongst few people in the past few years, mainly due to easy access to internet, whereby, a person without having practical experience / real knowledge of a particular aspect, starts giving practical / commercial advices to others. We come across many such people in our lives nowadays. These are people basically with shallow knowledge. For such people, internet makes it very easy to browse a few topics on the subject and than pose to be an authority. My brother does farming and I have seen many commercial internet scholors contacting the farmers nowadays, advicing them regarding new breeds, new seeds, new fertilzers and new methods of farming, just based on a shallow internet knowledge. When asked about details, they are quick at quoting multiple links as an authority, without carrying out much research about the source, knowledge of the writer, the climate of the area talked about etc etc. Such people are dangerous as they lack the real knowledge and understanding of the subject and due to them, many people loose their money. This is what I termed as "internet scholor" and this is what I adviced Vegalinks to be careful about. I wonder why would anyone like to defend people with such attitude?

Internet is like a library which has billions of books, pamphlets and articles. But unlike a proper library where every new addition is accounted for, it's source and authenticity is determined/ recorded, anyone can contribute anything on the internet which may be brilliant, false, dangerous, very useful.... anything and unfortunately, no one has any control over it. That is where we have to be careful in our selections, specially when advising a person who has committed his money in a commercial project.

I have very recently started to explore commercial rose farming and had a few questions from the forum. I have seen the SMEDA feasibility for this business. While the info is appropriate for an introductory level, the return on investment is not very believeable, ie for a 5 acre farm,a total investment of Rs 22 lac and payback in 1.5 years. Is it just me or does anybody else also consider these numbers to be incorrect.

Also, if anybody has experience in this business, can he please clarify if it is practically feasible to run this business by hiring expertise while the owner may not have adequate knowledge or have only preliminary knowledge of horticulture.

Finally, is there any government agency that assists in technical and market expertise for horticulture business?

Thanks in advance to all.

Will be following this thread for Input by Seniors.Everybody knew roses always had a great demand as cut flowers or petals used by Hakeems.A single rose could cost around Rs 10 to 20.So we can make a self feasibility here by what will be the cost of parent plant, when will and how long will it bloom and how many expected flowers from it?

Brother, by the time some member gives you expert advice based on experience, I am sure you would have gone through the posts on first page which will provide you guidance on how to go about the thing (that is not a guidance on rose farming but on how to look for someone who has the real expertise).

Please be specific in your requirements also that what type of rose farming you intend doing. After having seen the rose farms of some of my friends which were both for petal and cut flower businesses, I would suggest that it is a technical job and would require specific expertise. Some of my friends have lost lot of money by taking it easy. Growing a few roses successfully is something else and growing roses in the farm for commercial purpose is something entirely different. Please contact people in your area who have speicific knowledge on the subject and have been successful COMMERCIALLY.
