Post by Kaleem »

Oppppsssssssss

It means I am late...............????
I just want to share with you that Gloriosia Lily grow in Pakistan as wild flower in the Mirpur and Bhimber city of Azad Kashmir. First time I have collect few rhizomes from a jungle, its rhizomes are similar to sweet potato's rhizomes. When I was in Mangla, wild pigs have eaten all mine plants, they love roots.
These sprouts in May and I am ready to hunt them this year.

Here is a photo of the bloom of my plant

I am surprised and glad to know that it grows wild in northen side of pakistan. Digging from wild ah ahm(not encouraged from old gardeners ;) ) But no harm getting a few if they are abundant. so i assume you can share few rhizomes with me?

Kaleem it is a fantastic photograph.
Is this of the wild growing plant?
I have a dozen tubers but I am not happy with their performance. I usually dig them out as soon as the foliage dies, strange I have never seen roots on any tuber. How big is the root system in other words what should be the size of pot?.

Thank you for the nice words.
Sir first time I have planted tuber in the container of 14" size but that year I had just 6 or 7 blooms and after that I planted in the soil bed and you will not believe, it was hard for me to count the blooms just with one plant. Its tubers are rootless.
Yes these are growing in wild especially in the District Bhimber (A.K) only in yellow and orange color.

By the way which colors do you have? If you want to throw them out then wait...... send me and I want to have a try with those tubers (all of mine were eaten by wild pigs when I was in Mangla Cantt.), I hope you will love to have them back again.

Its tubers are rootless
Is it so or it is that as the stem dies the roots are already gone.
I will have to dig a young plant to verify.
I once planted them in the ground the results were no different.

This is the only colour that I have.

Sir
You have nice color. I think its pink and yellow. Here are few more photos when my tuber was in the bed. Its just one tuber. Never used any special fertilizer but cow manure always give me excellent results.
