Okay thanks. I had seen the same plant in Shalimar in 2011 and it looked like a climber. It was quite expensive (~ Rs. 4000-5000?). The conclusion is that the the truly fragrant Artabotrys is a climber not the upright tree version which is sold by most nurseries in Karachi.Izhar wrote:Farooq, the plant of Dr. sb. looks exactly like the one we saw at Shalimar nursery...

After three years this vine produced a flower which was lost in a storm just as it was getting yellow and fragrant.
Today I detected another bud, I hope it is fragrant.

Arif sb, could you show the complete plant? I want to see the growing habit of this plant. I think this is a critical criterion for differentiating whether the Artabotrys is fragrant or not.

The climber one is available at Shalimar Nursery, NIPA right now. Intensely fragrant at evening, I could smell it from 3-4 meters away. The other one is available at Diamond Nursery, DHA (Posted the picture in another thread). It has very mild Jasmine/Kamini type fragrance. Not worth it IMO

The climber version was too expensive. Few years ago Shalimar was selling it for approx. Rs. 5000, as far as I remember. What is the current price?
You are right, the other naag champas sold in Karachi are _useless_. One waits for 3-4 years only to see green flowers without any fragrance.

Even the climber/rambler of mine was a disappointment although Dr. AYKhan is satisfied with the one from same source, Another year is the grace period.
