They are two types of portulaca being offered here. The first being the F1 variety and the local variety. The local variety after flowering tends to die down and re-appears in the soil bed after a hiatus of almost 8-9 months.

I would say the annual and the perennial which never die and bloom for a long long time.
Its biggest disadvantage is that it is a mid day flower, the time when it is at its best is not the time when people sit in the garden, it is good for places visited by people during mid day.
I have removed it from garden of my restaurant where people sit in the lawns in the evening only. It has no place in my house as well.

True. In fact the flower of the f1 variety stays open more during the day as compared to local variety but as mentioned by Brig sahib that it is at best a mid day flower. Also the blooms are too small and inconspicuous to make an impact or impression. I would rather plant the zinnia Magellan or the zinnia provision variety. I have yet to try the profusion variety which is supposedly more heat tolerant and less susceptible to powdery mild dew often the case with zinnia Magellan.

Khurram last year i planted profusion double but it can not match the beauty of Magellan.Actually its totally a different species than that of Elegans.Magellan is best followed by Dream land.
Portulaca F-1 only the sundial variety flowers remain open for long time all the other varieties close in the mid of the day.I think the perennial type is more better which is flowering these days.I am no more in favor of the annual types.
Profusion was great failure in my garden.
