| Other Details | No annual is more cheerful or easier to grow than marigolds. These flowers are the spendthrifts among annuals, showing a wealth of gold, copper, and brass into our autumn gardens. The flower’s popularity probably derives in part from its ability to bloom brightly all autumn long. Taller and more upright than French Marigolds, African Marigolds are easy to grow and thrive under hot, dry conditions. These aromatic plants brighten the garden with their cheerful shades of yellow, orange and maroon.Annual. Easily grown in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Appreciates some light afternoon shade Germination from large, easily handled seeds is rapid, and blooms should appear within a few weeks of sowing.
If the spent blossoms are deadheaded, the plants will continue to bloom profusely.
Do not fertilize marigolds. Too rich a diet stimulates lush foliage at the expense of flowers. Marigolds bloom better and more profusely in poor soil.The densely double flowerheads of the African marigolds tend to rot in wet weather.. |

sir.. can u please add the sowing months of seeds to the database.. if seed germination days are also included then it will be more helpful..

In general marigolds are sown in spring for mid summer display(when plants are not as healthy as fall)....and secondly after monsoon i.e. August for fall, when they perform the best. However i had success with them throughout the year if provided right conditions. They are frost hardy as well as summer hardy.

Farhan the mid summer variety is Discovery.its an out standing variety.

Farhan you an excellent gardener thats why i was sharing it with you.I,l plant Golds after 10th of August Inshallah.This season i am also planing for Vanilla.

Umar Bhai we must get some new variety marigold seeds for next year from abroad. Lot of variety is available abroad. Color wise. It will be a good addition.

Farhan actually i have tried so many varieties both of French & African in past.But Inca & Bonanza are my most favorite.Inca I bloom size is biggest & it also flower like crazy.Another two varieties which i liked in past were Marvel & Atlantis.

Farhan F-1 Discovery,F-1 Durango series.Farhan remeber that this Durango is the same well known Bonanza series.Not only the flowers even the color names are the same like Bee & Bolero.This is the finest series in crested type French marigolds.
Dicovery is the most dwarf which means you are reducing the flower size of an African.I personally favor African for its heavy blooms.so i think Inca is better.another thing that Discovery gives us two colors.It does not mean Discovery is not a good series.its one of the excellent African variety.what i like its flowers are in bunches like Guldasta.i have enjoyed this series from 1997-99 at Abbottabad as summer annual.i use to keep it in the front border of Incas to gain maximum color effect.from base to the top.
