Re: Calceolaria "Herbeohybrida" (Ladies' Purse)
I doubt if it can be grown from a stem.As per my knowledge, it is a spring annual & now is the right time to transplant its seedlings, which are sold only by the big nurseries. I am also looking for it;yesterday I checked it from Fateh Mohammad Nursery Islamabad, where I found the seedlings still very small in size & very few in a pot. I couldn't check from other nurseries at Peshawar Mor; you may. If I find them somewhere I ll let you know.farah fayyaz wrote:Sir Munir

Let me add that my previous 2-3 experiences of growing this flower have not been very good, as I have found its growth to be very slow & survival rate also low;yet I ll try even this time.

. Sorry Dr. Farooq, I don't know how I missed to respond to the above. As said earlier,in my view it is a Spring Annual, though surprisingly some time back another gardener mentioned it to me that he grows it during other time of the year also.I couldn't check the details then, but will try to get these next time I come across him; presently don't have his contact. On the other point:I don't think it is fragrant, but will chech it specifically next time.
. Like to hear from others also on the Forum, who have experience of growing this flower.

Re: Calceolaria "Herbeohybrida" (Ladies' Purse)
Calceolaria is very unique in its flower shape.Munir sb its foliage is also very decorative.I have grown it so many times in past for its unique blooms like flowers. The problem which i commonly faced in growing it was it like acidic soil & lack of iron.It foliage gets yellow so you have to spray chelated iron sulphate on forth nightly bases.Another thing it needs filtered sun for that purpose keep it in a place which receives the morning sun.It hates direct bright sun light.I usually grow the F-1 Dainty series. But its just a specimen plant only good for pots & not in beds. Its not fragrant at all.
Munir sb its not a bad grower.I think you may let the soil to become dry.Try to keep the soil firmly moist every time. The soil becomes dry & you will loose you Calceolaria. So its better never godi this plant. The soil should remain moist all the time & never allow it to dry is also for another shade loving annual Mimulas, The Monkey Flower.Calceolaria & Mimulua are truly novelties & very rare.

I believe this plant is not comfortable in Pakistan's environment specailly ISL/LHR or KHI. It needs more chill and less sun.

Re: Calceolaria "Herbeohybrida" (Ladies' Purse)
Adnan it flowers very good but it needs little more care.It needs filtered sun & the secret is the soil may not be allowed to dry out.It hates root disturbance so dont godi it.If there are weeds just firmly pull out.
Munir sb chelated Irion Sulphate you can get it from Mehfooz seeds,Umar plaza, Ayub market, F-8 Markaz.I have decided i,l plant it this year in pots if i got it.
