i am watching again and again that marvelous great umbrella..it is a mesmerizing scene... cannot imagine such sample in Pakistan due to climate difference.thanks for sharing such beauties with us..

Couldn't an alternative plant more conducive to our climate like the Grantha or small leaf Ficus be used instead?

Thanks for the feedback. The Judges wig is the last picture in the series designed like a lot of lumps of green.

Wow!!! WHAT A GARDEN...

As far as stately gardens go it is a smaller size but the way it is designed means that each section can only be seen when you actually enter into it, like a series of rooms, each one more impressive than the next.

When viewed from inside the house from the top floor windows you can appreciate how the chess pieces in topiary are laid out, if ever you are in the UK and up north it is well worth a visit. It is of world class quality and it will take a good afternoon or day to walk round and appreciate the estate.

Some more views of the topiary. See if you can spot the ducks which many years ago started off as peacocks but like most gardens have evolved, There is a lion in there also but unfortunately I did not find it.

Note the pleached lime trees reflected in this secret pool area


Come out of the pleached lime maze complete with secret pool and you see this - the bowling green.



Turn the other way and you see this leading to hidden "Haha"


The "Haha" hidden from view as it was designed to be (a natural fenceless barrier to protect against farm animals from entering the gardens) it is where the dark line runs across the pic just behind the urn

Note how scaffolding is used to support the ancient yew tree/beech branches from collapsing and spoiling the effect of the topiary hedges





The kitchen garden borders


Nasturtiams, fennel and Hops are grown here decoratively


All of these are used for the kitchen garden including the roses

Note the little trick of placing an object in the distance centre of the eyes view to give an illusion of space and draw the mind into exploring the horizon beyond, when you reach the urn and go under the archway of the cowboys hat you will see the kitchen garden areas pictured above laid out in a very decorative style.
