Re: FSKamal’s Kitchen Garden
I love Kale and have been eating it non stop whenever I go to US, one of the first motivation for me to begin kitchen garden is to grow this miracle vegetable. Kale has been the most eaten vegetable in middle ages specially in Europe, it is a vegetable from brassica family, growing in colder colder regions, however is highly adaptable and hardy. So I experimented sowing the Kale seeds early November this year from seeds that I had someone bring for me from Canada and sister send it from US.
I sowed Kale Lacitano, and Red Russian Kale, after a good 7 weeks, looks like the experiment worked, they are growing happily in two big terracotta pots, almost 8-12” tall plants now and some of the bigger leaves are ready to harvest.
Kale is one of the healthiest vegetable on the planet. Its is primarily popular for high concentration and excellent source of antioxidant vitamins A, C, and K -- and sulphur-containing phytonutrients. Carotenoids and flavonoids are antioxidants associated with many of the anti-cancer health benefits. Kale is also rich in the eye-health promoting lutein and zeaxanthin compounds. One cup of chopped kale contains 33 calories and 9% of the daily value of calcium, 206% of vitamin A, 134% of vitamin C, and a whopping 684% of vitamin K. It is also a good source of minerals copper, potassium, iron, manganese, and phosphorus.
I strongly suggest fellow kitchen gardeners as well as those who are farming at larger scale for market consumption to begin growing these.

. Farah, you have got good results of the dedicated efforts.Details of the great nutritional value of Kale & its health benefits are very informative.
. I don't think its seeds are available in Pakistan. If you want others to follow your advice, you must send some seeds to the Forum Seed Bank for others to obtain before the next season.

The beautiful neon coloured stems of swiss chard add beauty to the kitchen garden and of course a healthy food choice.
