Orchids are ideally suited for tropical climates. Having experimented with Orchids, i would advise that the Karachi is more ideally suited for growing orchids. Even In Karachi they would require maintenance of certain temperature which can only be done by having a greenhouse installed with misting systems.

In Lahore and Islamabad they require shade during hot summer months (April, May, June, July August, September) and protection against cold in the winter months (December and January). Compared to Orchids, Hoyas are more hardier to grow in Lahore/Islamabad.

Orchids never thrive unless they are provided they are grown in their media even in Karachi. Preparing the orchids media is easy can be prepared by mixing 40% of composted barks of our local Chir Pine or barks of other trees, 30% Arthur Bower's John Innes Compost or Peat and 30% Perlite. Or even the Arthur Bowers Orchid Mix Media imported from UK ought to be available in Karachi.

Below are some excerpts from a South African Magazine and there is a 6 month difference climate wise between Pakistan and South Africa. September being mentioned in South Africa is equivalent to March in Pakistan.
