Re: Fast Growing Trees in Islamabad
So is it final verdict that fruit trees would not serve my purpose or would not survive in such soil ?

Nothing is final ....it is just an opinion based on some aspects. Nature is wondrous many a times.

Why not grafted black or white Mulberry trees, or Jaman, both fast growing and good looking.baberrabbani wrote:So is it final verdict that fruit trees would not serve my purpose or would not survive in such soil ?

Re: Fast Growing Trees in Islamabad
My experience on both these trees as i have them.
Mulberry....Highly suitable for zone 9-10(Islamabad). Fast growing and compact foliage.
Deciduous....will not have a single leaf from Nov-Dec to Late March.
Jaman (zone 9b similar to Islamabad)....i planted one in Nov, 2011. It was 1 1/2 feet then.....now its 1 3/4 ft after one and a half year.

Can Apricot be an option? I think these trees go well in Islamabad.

Re: Fast Growing Trees in Islamabad
It is an option if you can compromise on three aspects
Small size
A tree that would be without leaves at least for four months which is against your requirement
specialized care which you will need to learn

Re: Fast Growing Trees in Islamabad
Baber sahib...the key point is that no tree will ever eliminate odor because the foul smell (= odor causing molecules) will diffuse into air, no matter what, from a region of high concentration (the nullah) to low concentration i.e. houses. We can't beat nature.
All a poor tree would is that it will stop direct wafts from the nullah to your house. So in my opinion you need a "wall" of ever green tall trees with dense foliage not something that sheds its leaves in the fall season.

Baber I think Farooq has rightly said regarding the Foul odour and poor trees will not be much help but it’s good to have them, only a suggestion why don't you try a strong fragrant vine, bush or plant in your garden witch will create a nice odour around your premises and will give you a nice atmosphere and neutralise the foul smell, you can try Rat Ki Rani, Jasmine and honey suckle but there are more options that you can find under fragrant plants in the forum.
