Jade wine or Strongylodon Macrobotrys is a pollinated by bats in the wild and it is speculated the reason why its flowers hang upside down is to facilitate pollination by bats. The bats hang upside down to sample the Jade vine’s nectar, and the plant gently brushes pollen onto the bat’s head while it drinks. The next plant the bat visits collects the pollen from the first before brushing its own pollen to be transported elsewhere. Some researchers think that the the reason for its unusual jade green colour is that it stands out in the moonlight enticing bats.
