Strongyloydon macrobotrys!!!

Post by aykhan »

I happen to be in Toronto for a few days and had some time so visited Allan Gardens Conservatory today. The first plant as I entered was a blooming Strongyloydon macrobotrys vine!!! This was totally unexpected and sheer luck. Although occupied these days I thought I must share this with the forum right away. I have tried this vine twice in Lahore and effectively killed it each time.

Such a unique color! Never saw this vine before in botanical gardens I have visited so far. It should have survived in Lahore- they seem to be keeping it in a tropical environment.

This vine needs a lot of humidity to survive that our Pakistani environment does not have, jungle environment enclosed glass greenhouse works best..

I saw it in Sigapur and loved it . Adnan sardar claimed he had supplied me one but it was never located even by him amongst the lot he had supplied me. He claims my MALI must have....., I feel it will not survive Lahore climate.
I hope other vines he has sold to me come out true?

Subhan Allah !
I fell in love with this jade vine the 1st time I saw its pic on a random-exotic-vine-search on net,few yrs back. In search of its seeds on online sources, I came to know that no commercial vendor sells it. As according to certain friends' opinion who reside in US and have this beauty in their garden, this vine's seeds need to be planted fresh (with in 24hrs, or before they dry out!) so technically it is not possible to sell and deliver it on commercial basis. It is very common in Far Eastern Countries because of their tropical environment. I am yet to find it here in Pakistan with anybody else other thn Adnan Sardar who is selling it at a sky high price. :!:
