The Mali's n nurseries advise or sell aged cow manure in winters. The idea is that cow manure is 'garam' (hot) and protects the plants in winters from the cold as well as providing nutrients.
I thought that one of the possibilities, assuming they are correct, is that the manure (not completely decomposed) starts fermenting in the soil under wet conditions. Which is what produces the heat. In this case both the heat and the incompletely degraded fertilizer would inflict more harm than good?
I would appreciate some insight from the experienced members on this.
