I have seen carnation(raised from cutting) at lahore nursery just starting to bloom. These are in pots and have many different colors in picotee. I am thinking of buying few plants as a perennial prospect. Can some one tell me what is their life cycle?
1- If i buy them now, Should i put them in big pot or soil bed? Will they grow good under neem tree?
2- What is their blooming season?
3- Will they survive hot summers and monsoon?

In my limited experience they are perennials. Last year when i grew them, they became shabby after flowering. I cut them back. Some were in pots and some were in ground. I tried to move the ones in pot to ground in which they died due heat. Others in bed bloomed in fall again(blooms were smaller). Similarly i saw many carnations in nurseries in fall last year flowering. However they were protected in green clothes.

Mine were not bothered about monsoon rains. Rather i would say it was one of the plant which bothered not at all.
