I think weeping willow tree is not growing in Karachi.
2)How to make inorganic Rooting Powder/Hormone? And what its cost?

Interesting question. The plant hormones are relatively simple molecules but there is no home made recipe. Only a proper lab can synthesize/ extract the plant hormone. There is nothing such as an inorganic (mineral in better terms) hormone.

All the rooting powders and rooting gels and rooting liquid are inorganic made by using "INDOLE BUTRIC ACID(IBA)"

Dear Iskhan,

You are right that IBA is the constituent of rooting powders. However, FYI it is an organic compound as opposed to inorganic (things derived from non living objects). I checked the synthesis and it is a complicated synthesis procedure.

Two hormones are usually available in most shops ie. GrowMore and Vitax.
Rooting hormones are of various types and concentrations. Usually its IBA in conc. of:
No.1: 0.1 % softwood
No.2: 0.4 % semi-hardwood
No.3: 0.8 % hardwood (and roses)


BUT once i bought a hormone by bayer it was IAA. So all of them work but do check their conc. of the actual rooting agent!


ALSO if you want something organic, honey works fine. Just dip it and plant the cutting!

Honey is not a rooting hormone.The theory (as I read) behind using honey is that is provides a sugar for the cutting to feed on until it can start growing roots.Raw honey with active enzymes would work better than pasteurized honey.
Honey, though it does not contain any plant hormones, can also make an effective rooting substance.

I beleieve that the common aspirin tablets as dispensed by the chemist contain the same compounds that are in rooting hormone.

So dissolve a an asprin tablet in some water and hey presto you have your hormone rooting compound

If aspirin is dissolved in the water and used in the vases for cut flowers indoors,they remain fresh for a longer duration.May be it will work as a rooting hormone.No harm in giving it a try.Never used any rooting hormone before.
