Yes I have been to the Botanic gardens in Glasgow, their principle feature however is the large glasshouses and the concert venues. Its ideal if your interest is tropical plants, having come from Pakistan you will no doubt have seen some of them in their natural climate environments and consequently the quality of plants can never be as good as they are outside in Pakistan. The glasshouses though are very very impressive structures

yes I always find it amusing how people from Pakistan covet and strive for the English cottage garden look (that is always difficult to achieve/maintain given the climate) and people from England covet tropical plants that are totally out of place due to the weather, places like Glasgow even spend extraordinary amounts of money on glasshouses/arboretums/orangeries etc to grow our simple palms/citrus/hibiscus/amaryllis/aloe/bromeliads etc

I cannot even begin to remember the number of Pakistanis who have (unsuccessfully) tried to grow fruiting mango/guava/loquat also motia here

Why? - I guess it must be the human nature of beating a challenge, when I tell my ghorey friends that over in my garden in Pakistan I have planted mango, guava, olive, chikoo, lychee, and 3 or 4 citrus variety they are amazed

Cottage Garden is a not an urge to grow some specific plants, Its a style of gardening involving the idea of home garden. Free flowing, informal design and dense planting. No doubt the bookish style comes from English but it can be created using own area/endemic plants.

This is beauty of cottage gardens....no formalities otherwise and of plant selection and even its not dependent on climate (provided you choose hardy plants or your region), but a tropical garden can only be in tropics

I would not call herbariums and Green house Gardens......They are so artificial.

Yes your right its a look that is so often promulgated from published books and photographs. Most of which have been published for the English market. Over the years it has become commonly associated worldwide as a kind of specialised English Cottage Garden look
