Summer 2015
The previous season was badly affected by the construction of my home's first floor.. now its summers and I have planned some flowers... lets have a look..
Portulaca Sundial F1 Mixed, this is the best seed grown portulaca, big two inch blooms which remain open all the day.. one plant easily covers 7-8 inches diameter... plucking initial blooms will give it a boost to branch out and get fuller:
I bought a packet of Scabious flowered zinnia from old sabzi mandi, some of the plants turned out to be variegated.. hope it does bloom true to type:
You can see some sunflowers in this Zinnia bed, these are "Peach Passion" from OSC Canada, actually i bought the seeds in just Rs.20 per packet from old sabzi mandi.. i was not sure how many will germinate or will they be true to type, 5 germinated and the flowers have a nice color, the size is medium and it branch out well:
I also bought "Ruby Eclipse" sunflower seeds from old sabzi mandi, their pictures look similar as per google but the pack image was very different:
Jumbo leaf of "Ruby Eclipse" sunflower:
Front garden:
Gaillardia "Razzel dazzel" from T&M:
Gardenia:
Black sweet potato vine:
Ice plant, it loves to be root bound and hang.. blooms open in full sun:
Baby sunrose or Aptenia, in 12 inch pot growing like crazy.. i gave 3/4 of it to a mali as cuttings now it has double the original size:
Erythnia crista-galli is ready for the second flush:
Bought the plant of our native Haar-singhaar:
Cannas.. the red ones are 8 feet plus, the Kochia in picture are self sown volunteers:
This "Y" shaped bed is dedicated to Dreamland zinna mixed colors, growing nicely.. arrangement are already installed for taller plants as the time passes:
Cleopatra Canna, a brown stripe.. hope it starts forming more stripes:
Graham Thomas rose started blooming in this hot weather:
Roses, just look at Graham thomas in middle.. janglee ban gaya hay:
Caladiums started sprouting:
I know Calla lily doesn't survives in Karachi but dil ka kya karain sahib:

Very creative Izhar sb. Great to see Graham Thomas growing so well in Karachi. Mr Thomas proves that it has not been included in Rose Hall of Fame without a strong reason.

Very nice ...your Gardenia and Harsinghaar are my favorites. If you have space for medium sized trees why not grow some flame of the forest, and even Maulsari (very eastern fragrant flowers).

Re: Summer 2015
I found Mimusops elengi in a nearby nursery, will get it.. flame of the forest will take many years to bloom.. this plot, which i turned into garden, is not ours.. we took the permission from the owners for this activity...
I have a big Lawsonia inermis bush and Moringa oleifera tree too.. Lawsonia is getting more fragrant day by day...

Very nice. Ixoras are looking very healthy. The calla lily are a recent purchase or from previous year ?
Canna's require a lot of watering which can be problematic given the chronic water shortage in Karachi.
