What Iris is it?

Post by Muhammad Arif Khan »

Six to eight Years ago a friend gave me four plants of this Iris, according to him it was a Louisiana Iris I provided the best recommended conditions, boggy soil and even pots immersed in water, it kept growing and multiplying but gave no flowers. I got so fed up that last year I pulled them out and dumped them in a corner of the garden.
I gave a few plants to Irfan and was surprised to find they bloomed for him. This morning I visited that remote corner of my Thokar garden and this is what I saw;

A friend has suggested that it may not be what you think it is and perhaps requires different treatment.

Brig Sahib it is certainly not Louisiana, Bearded or Japanese Iris which leaves us with the most plausible option of it being a Iris Sibirica (Siberian Iris). Attached is a photo of a Siberian Iris from NZ Gardener April 2014 issue whose flower layout and shape bears resemblance to your Iris.

Perhaps it might be Iris pseudacorus found mainly in yellow colour.
