Post by basheergadit »

Salaam,

I am new to this forum. I am looking to purchase a decent-sized, good looking flowering tree. Can anyone guide me where can I find any of these in khi?

1. Flowering Crabapple Prairiefire,
2. Paulownia Tomentosa
3. Tabebuia Heptaphylla
4. Tabebuia Impetiginosa
5. Jacaranda mimosifolia
6. Spathes campanulata

Thanks :)

Jacaranda and delonix regia are good options. Better than tabebuias. Tabebuias have only 10-15 days flowering period. The flowering times vary amongst different trees of the same species and therefore unpredictable. I have 5 of these. T. Heptaphlla- the supposedly better species but it's not really what it is in the best of pictures on Internet. Jacaranda and delonix regia have beautiful foliage and long 30 days blooming periods. Delonix is rated as one of the best flowering trees in the world. Both are medium height trees. And not expensive

Thanks guys.

@Talha, Delonix is locally known as Gul Mohar, right? If you have any, can you PM me the pictures?

Also, can you guys tell me about Butea monosperma?

Thanks :)

There are two types of Gul mohr.

1) Barri Gul mohr (Delonix regia)
2) Chhoti Gul mohr (Caesalpinia pulcherrima)

Butea monosperma is not common in Karachi but Erythrina indica is and nowadays it is blooming with dark orange red flowers...

Thanks, Izhar sb.

I am actually creating a roof garden on a relative's office. It's a hobby, not a commercial project and I am looking for ideas.

I have a space with a round, 18 inch radius pot in center and I want to plant a tree that can rise ~10 ft, has a canopy (like delonix) and has beautiful flowers like prairefire, delonix, jacaranda with a reasonable blooming period per year.

From the internet, crabapple prairefire looks amazing but I don't know what's the local name and whether it will work out.

It would be great if you guys can share some suggestions on what i should/shouldn't do based on your experience.

18 inch is a small pot for a tree... I would recommend Chhoti gul mohr... Caesalpinia pulcherrima... it is an evergreen shrub which blooms year round in Karachi.. the trees you selected will not bloom in Karachi...

Thanks for the suggestion :)

Do you guys have any experience with red lagerstroemia? I found a nursery in lahore that is selling it.

According to what I could find on Internet, it's a small flowering tree with bright red flowers and bloom period of 120 days
