HYCINTHS - From bulbs to Blooms
Hi everyone, I was planning to post this earlier but sorry i was away for a couple of months, kind of busy in office. It is good to be back where i find my feet are
Following are some of the steps that may help gardeners in Pakistan to get magnificient blooms of winter flowering bulbs like Hycinths.
SteP # 01: PLACE THE BULBS IN THE REFRIGERATOR : thats sound weird but to give the bulbs a fake winter chill it is necessary otherwise the blooms may not come. This should be done two months prior to sowing.

AN ADVICE: it is even better to keep the whole pot in the fridge if possible.

STEP # 02: After two months , Remove the Bulbs from fridge and sow in the pots , just make sure ambient temperature reaching below 10C in the days of sowing (this is achieved in December end in PAK in ISL /LHR). Bulb should be sown with soil covering max. upto shoulders of the bulbs as shown below:

STEP # 03: Keep low watering during the initial period, to make sure bulb won't rot, once in 10 days watering is enough, it depends also on the size of pot, soon the bulb will start to sprout.

A TIP: Do not fertilize the soil while you prepare it, use liquid fertilizer once the sprouts have been noted, Use index finger to check the soil dampness for water needs from the whole below the pot, HYCINTHS likes to be potted closely packed together or even for a single bulb use a small pot to avoid overwatering.
