Dutch Iris

Post by mikhurram »

Dutch Irises can be grown successfully in Lahore. They require a site having raised bed with good drainage and once planted they tend to prop up faithfully each year. These days they have started sprouting and bloom in March.

I had shared my experiences regarding Dutch Irises and posted some of the pictures which can be viewed and read in the following url. At that time i was quite surprised to hear that some of the members experience of growing these irises was unfavourable.

All of my Dutch Irises are at least 6 year old bulbs which emerge on their own and make nice cut flowers.

All they require is a well drained soil bed having sunshine from morning till noon only and then shade. The depth of the bulbs should be twice their height.

The blue iris is bi-coloured. I tend to think that Dutch Iris appear to be more regal than lilliums and last up to 2 weeks at-least 2 weeks before fading into oblivion. Notice it's straight stem makes it an ideal flower for usage as a cut flower also having a long vase life.
