There are two types of basil, the
sweet basil used in food for aromatic purposes in Western foods. It is
Ocimum basilicum or Niaz-boo. Its seed are called
tukh-malanga and are used in qulfis, falooda etc. You can recall those seeds as black seeds with a white jelly like covering.
Then there is a holy basil,
Ocimum sanctum, sanctum in Latin for sacred, which the Hindus consider as holy plant and is probably worshiped. It is called Tulsi in Hindi/ Urdu.
