If I got it right:
Asim initially wrote: Niazboo is a different plant..Basil means Tulsi....

What is the final ? Please clarify.

Hmm...thats why we have scientific names :-)

There are two types of basil, the sweet basil used in food for aromatic purposes in Western foods. It is Ocimum basilicum or Niaz-boo. Its seed are called tukh-malanga and are used in qulfis, falooda etc. You can recall those seeds as black seeds with a white jelly like covering.

Then there is a holy basil, Ocimum sanctum, sanctum in Latin for sacred, which the Hindus consider as holy plant and is probably worshiped. It is called Tulsi in Hindi/ Urdu.

Thank you Farooq for the explanation,which brings out another revelation for me that Tukh(am)-Malanga are the seeds of Niaz-boo. Allah bless !

Yestarday I can grow basil seeds according to my friends suggestion on "Gardening Pakistan" and wait for germination. I aslo have some seed of "Kari Patta". My relatives send me from Karachi. I want to got information, in Lahore which is suitable or humid temperature to grow "Kari Patta" seeds.

I would suggest that you rather buy this plant or request them to send you a "kari patta" runner. Seeds...very rarely form on the plant and are you sure they were red (fully ripe) when they were plucked from the plant?

Karri patta (Murraya koenigii) seeds are dark purple or black when ripe... they do not store well and only fresh seeds germinate...

My Karri patta seeds are dark black color. Tomarrow I will submit picture of seeds. I want to know "Dark Black Color of Karri Patta" grows now-a-days in Spring.

Karri Patta is a common plant & grows well in Islamabad.Should do well in Lahore & elsewhere also . The plant is easily available & is fairly cheap.Consider buying one, while also trying your seeds.

Sorry, karri patta ripe seeds are purple black. My mind had mixed up the red ripe berries of kamini seeds (Murraya paniculata).

Just sharing the pic of my Ocimum sanctum, i hope i am not wrong about its identity, I had got it from a Hindu Family they had grown it from the seeds and i got one sapling it has grown up now with me.
