Agreed. However, in some homes these very plants, especially those with crimson flowers and pure white with a small red central dot, have been blooming practically all the year round for years in flower beds. What could be the reason for this ?

Farhan Bhai saying right its "Annual Vincas", it produce seeds. As far as Vinca-F1 or other dwarf varieties cannot produce seeds.
In every home normally two colors of "Sada Bhar", Crimson flower having red dot inside and White flower having white dot inside. By doing cross section you can produce different colors starting from normal plant that can easily available at home.

It's three plants having different color. Here "Red Not inside white petals" having new variety of Periwinkle means Sada Bhar.
