i have bought fresh turmeric from local sabzi wala and want to know if i can plant it ? will they servive in karachi weather.also he had three sizes 1- small , 2- large ones the size of normal ginger , 3- very large with roots all around them.

i have bought two strawberry plants from a nursery in dec, 2014. as i,ve read on net to pinch off flowers of first year to have better growth next year, how would i know that the plants are one or two year old and they would not die as annuals does?
