My mango tree is suffering in a bad way. The leaves are shedding and have gone very yellow. I took a picture. What is this white thing on its leaves? Pests? What kind of pest spray should I use?

Mealy bugs... better to first wash them with mild soap water for 2-3 days, then use any general purpose gardening pesticide...

These bugs are not easy to get rid of, They will climb down get in the soil around the stem and lay eggs, come Feb the tiny babies start climbing the trunk to start the cycle again.Following was the practice in our Mango orchard.
In December remove the soil around the trunk and throw it away, replacing it with fresh BHAL.
As you find babies climbimg the trunk sweep them twice a day
Paint the lower foot or two of trunk with sticky GANDA BROZA to trap them.
Keep fighting and learn to live with them.

Wow! This is a never ending battle isn't it? I'll try n fight till the end. Had pesticide sprayed with power pump today, but half an hour later, I could still see the plump white sap suckers stubbornly climbing on the tree from the roots. I'll start the procedure you've stated above and try my best to save the tree. My mother just told me an interesting fact when I mentioned Ganda Broza. Apparently, her great grandmother used it for removing hair from her upper lip. Ouch!

You can use coopex powder near stem... BTW never use pesticide spray single dose, this may kill the most adults but the juveniles and eggs will remain.. spray alternate day for a week, then weekly.. there are guava trees in my area facing similar problem every year during March-May (which is the blooming season), once cleaned and sprayed, there is hardly any pest rest of the year.. Yes, you have to keep regular checks, its a never ending battle..
