Adenium cordex

This spring for fun sake I planted three Adeniums in the ground, on re-arranging the beds I had to pull two of them out I am surprised to see the lovely cordex they formed under ground. I will re-pot them after two months with cordex above the soil.




No water during winter and I have not lost any, the one in the ground will get water along with other plants, lets see if it survives.

Sir giving them NO water would protect them during this winter season. I have placed mine in a greenhouse covered with plastic sheet and i also would NOT giving any water to my Adeniums.

I love this plant but it does not survive in Islamabad.

Very rightly pointed out by Umar Khan and Dr Aykhan regarding their survival in our cold winters of punjab and northwest region. The temperature in karachi is more suitable for them. The Adenium mostly in nurseries are of Obesum variety which is less cold hardy. The biggest challenge is to protect from cold temp in plains of Punjab in Dec & January and the best course of action is by placing them in greenhouse and refrain from giving them any water.

There are some Adenium varieties which are more cold resistant than the typical Obesum variety. These varieties (Boehmianum , Swazicum & Multiflorum) grow wild in Africa and stand a better chance of withstanding cold. I have seen on rare occasions some of Swazicum being offered for sale. Even nursery owners are not aware of these cultivars. I'll post soon a photo of 'Swazicum' variety enabling members to identify these particular Adeniums.
