I pruned my Adiniums in Jan. to get lots of flowers but what I got was extra growth.



What went wrong?

maybe less sunlight..

After making jellies out of many over our winters, let me take a guess. Foliage, green, nitrogen and sunlight. As it grows in a desert so sun cant be the problem which leaves nitrogen. Flowers dont require N they rather prefer the P and the K. Nitrogen rich fertiliser or medium in the pot at least for this plant.

Why dont you make a tea bag of chicken poop and hang it in a barrel to make fertiliser tea and use that in a very dilute form and forget the cow patties for this plant? Chicken poop is rich in P and K with very little N.

Acidic medium? Desert sand should either be neutral or alkaline. Khinger from the bhatta(brick) factory is neutral and highly absorbent with moisture retention over prolonged period. Marble chips are less absorbent and alkaline. Granite chips or bajri is neutral but no water retention properties. I think for this plant the last two are better. Take your pick.

Conclusion. I think that this plant should be treated in all respects as a cactus, any way its base is used for cactus grafting .

The plants love the medium,may be a change in fertiliser will do.

If you are not over fertilizing, over watering and giving them enough sun then expect them to sprout buds soon. I hard pruned my adenium and kept them in full sun and they are sprouting buds after a few weeks.

Hard pruned adenium from a month or so ago kept in full sun in June and July!

currently they are getting only morning sun, I will move them to full day sun.

By full sun I mean at least 6 hours a day of direct sunlight.
