germination of succulent seeds

Has anyone tried this, I have a few succulent and cactus seeds but so far I have not been successful in growing them.
There are a lot of guides available on the internet but either the media they recommend is not available here (pumice, silica sand etc.) of the weather is completely different from Lahore. It will be really helpful if someone shares their successful experience along with the media they used.

PS: Can you get pumice, silica sand here in Pakistan? if not what would be the best local substitute

Thanks,
Rameez.

I would like to know too. I got a gift of a packet of cactus seeds by Suttons. I've read a lot online.

Couple things I've learnt:
Builder's sand can be substituted- though I'm hopeful it is not salty
Others say use rainwater/distilled

I've sowed some seeds last week. So lets see! Do keep me posted how you get along.
