Using liquid fertilizer

Post by Kaiser »

AOA everyone,

I bought 19:19:19 Liquid fertilizer for few of my foilage plants in terracotta pots. I need to learn the appropriate way of using it, that how much to pour in 1 terracotta pot of say, 12inches. Usually the way is to first introduce some water to plant and than to pour in the liquid fertilizer but quantity is my question.

Thanks

I doubt that the liquid fertilizer you are talking about is "for pouring"(unless its a foreign product).....My bet, it is foliar spray fertilizer. Check on the bottle and you will find advice regarding the use.

You can pour it directly it is safe, but use sparingly, the ideal mix should be 1 tablespoon leveled per 10 liter of water and for foliar spray 1 teaspoon heaped per 10 liters of water. do dot spray in the day time or else leaf tips may burn, spray in the night or early morning 'Fajr Prayer' time.

It is fine to pour the required quantity of mixture in pots. But,how to dispense it to the plant/flower/veggie beds, where to irrigate them large amount of mixture would be required. Does then one first sprinkle enough mixture at the base of each plant with watering cane, allowing it to seep down to the roots & then irrigate them with water after some time/next day ? What is the correct method ?
Wouldn't it be better to resort to foliage spray ?

I think for everyone's assistance, could you post the product name please? And what do the instructions on the bottle say? If it is a foliar fertilizer, you will have to spray it on the leaves and if not; nobody will have an idea without knowing the identity of your product.

I would second this approach. Really works for broad spectrum of plant species specially for flowering ones/vegies.

AOA friends,

Thank you so very much for considering my question.

To Farooq Sb, the product name is Vitax(UK)- 111 (NPK) 19-19-19, Its in a tiny red granule form that have to blended in water according the requirement of usage, as Tahir Sb mentioned.

I try to clarify my question again here. As we know that plants in terra-cotta pots usually been watered in a quantity that flows out from the container bottom which ensures the plant is properly watered neither under nor over.

Now for instance one of my plant in its terra-cotta pot takes around 4 litres of water to flow out from bottom hole, and for the same potted plant I like to introduce liquied fertilizer than how much should be the quantity of plain water and the liquid fertilized water out of total 4 litres.

I hope you get my point. Thank you once again to all

Once fertilizing you don't need water to run out of draining hole. Someday when you are on special diet you may skip the normal meal etc. This is the case in this situation. If you have been watering so deeply earlier, don't do that once fertilizing as the water will take away fertilizer with itself. Water lightly as per the solution mentioned on the bottle. Vitax being the foreign brand must have mentioned in detail application method. Nothing can be better than what company suggests.

Next watering can be whatever you have been doing earlier.

Dear Farhan,

Thank you, this is an irony that these foreign fertilizer making companies do not explain the details but the mixing concentrations. Anyway out of your reply i perceive that at fertilizing day i have to cut on water a bit so that pot can retain the fertilzed mixture.

On a pleasant note, diet vala meal to kha liya hai ub khana bhi khana hai :D

Much appreciate.

Kaiser shb ... please see their website they have all the dilutions as to how much must be added per liter for feeding as expected from a responsible foreign company.
http://www.vitax.co.uk/grower/vitafeeds/.

You do not need to saturate the soil. All we need to get the feed to the roots. Once the top or bottom roots get the food it is their job to distribute them to the plant. You may add fertilizer solution in installments. What I normally do for home plants, once a month, is that I make a desired solution of MiracleGrow and feed them in such a way it drains. But this is very inconvenient for large plants. I have just small indoor plants that will take about 1L- 500 mL of water for drainage

Just for jest, your name (Kaiser or Kayser) was used as a unit used in physics for the number of waves contained in 1 centimeter (wavenumber)- it is no longer used though. The story associated with is that once our old professor mentioned this unit in the class and I just asked about "Who was Kaiser?". He finished the whole class discussing the history ... perhaps he was not in a mood to teach science either. I believe it is derived from Caesar of Rome !!
