but how can you be sure it is the genuine "kevra" ?

Appears to be a great site.......let us explore it and if agreed lets order something.
They are based in India. I had asked them last year and they do ship to Karachi but at that time they did not have the seeds. Can you ask them now? But unfortunately it will take a really long time see it flower. I would prefer a cutting from a live plant since a huge plant can easily grow by cutting. May be I have to start a separate thread to get more people interested. Somewhere in Pk, someone must be growing it :-)

Never tried that. And actually I was not aware until recently that it had seeds because we had a male plant which just flowered. A female kev-ra gives fruit not flowers. My father grew by cutting and perhaps our plant was 10-15 years old.

It's hard to find this plant even on the Internet. Maybe not as popular as we would, like it to be?

Tahir shb Thanks...I wish I could fly to buy them...but how sure was the nursery person about it being real fragrant kevra?

I have been sold screw-pines from Shalimar (Karachi) which are not kevras. Real kevra leaves are dull green, relatively leathery and the leaf surface is not glossy at all.

Farooq sb it looked to me a screw pine so i didn't pronounce its name and asked the nursery person there that what it was.. he replied it is a screw pine :) ... the leaves have very fine sharp spines at the end and the leaves have a texture similar to that of a yucca plant not shiny at all...

Tahir & Khan shb, this is one of the most authentic page on Pandananus (kew-ra) with lots of pictures:

You can cross check with the nursery man. No way to judge male or female before it flowers.

Identification will be a real challenge, only if i can find very high quality macro pics of leaves, trunk and all it would be easier.
