Syringa vulgaris? I had thought these bushes do not tolerate the high temperatures of summer in lahore? In islamabad they grow little better. i think there is a specimen or two in Lawrence gardens lahore. As per this link http://books.google.com.pk/books?id=5YS ... at&f=false The cultivars Blue boy and lavender lady might grow better in hot climates.

From where is this shrub available, any nursery?

The fragrant plants of my choice are:

Plumeria white (round tipped leaf)has the heavenly fragrance, the best of all, will do well even in large containers. Limitation of space is the problem.
Gardenia. Only second in quality of fragrance. I hope I will get to know, how to grow it. Too few flowers is the disadvantage.
Motias. Most friendly and easy to grow. One saucer of flowers in each room makes the house refreshing. (a winner)
Rat Ki Rani is true to its name, a must for every house.
There are other having as over powering fragrance but they are all short lived like Wisteria.
Even the most fragrant Rose is not as aromatic,
They say Yalang Yalang Fills the air with aroma better than any other plant. Cannot say mine has yet to flower.
Recommend me some others if you think them a must.

Brig saheb You have the list here of the most fragrant plants which are also guaranteed to flower. Some other to try which might not be that fragrant but fragrant enough and also survive here

Murraya varieties
Brunfelsias
Radermachera kunming
Aglaia odorata
Buddleia davidii
Citrus plants have fragrant flowers
Brugmansia
Passiflora vines
Magnolia figo

Khabbab and I got a Ylang Ylang vine with blooms on from Pattoki and yes, the flower I smelt in the evening was fragrant despite having fallen off the plant a while ago.

We couldn't resist despite the rice of Rs 1000. It had blooms and even in the morning heat there was some fragrance!

If you could not resist, it must be worth it. Mine should also be flowering.

I cannot forget the aroma even after two years! Even in 2010, when I was in Karachi, he said that new plants will be available soon and it seems they didn't grow more specimens since then or people bought them quickly. He showed the same huge vine. When they had the pots available, they were selling it around Rs 3000, which seemed very very expensive. Please let us know when the smaller plants are ready so that I can ask someone to buy it. They should be cheaper than fully grown plants.

I have long been wishing to buy Michelia champaca (the yellow one) which is supposedly is used in very expensive perfumes.

Izhar shb, if you are interested, Shalimar also sells Ylang-Ylang (dwarf variety). It has been doing very well in Karachi and the flowers are quite fragrant..
