Time for strawberries is Oct-Nov. i tried seeds but failed badly. Generally runners(small plants) are available in nurseries for Rs.10. Its a cold area crop and as soon as summers arrive they will wilt. Sow in raised beds and cover the mud with plastic to avoid foliage touching the soil. Or containers can do the same job but their roots are vigorous so containers should be large. They are frost tender and will need protection. One plant yield with me in last season was 10 per plant but professional growers deem more.
You can check local nurseries for runners. By the way most of the strawberry stock comes from swat(takhtbai) if you have someway of buying from there plants will be healthier and would cost Rs.5 per runner.

i re-checked today....Runners though available but are uncommon and according to nursery men they are made available in Dec-Jan.
After May they should be grown in shade/partial Sun

Thank u Farhan, thank u Rafaiy. I ve grown strawberries 2-3 times in the past also, but with partial success due to one discrepancy or the other. This time I was determined to do better, but have again failed even to take a timely start ; inspite of an advance promise my source has not been to arrange the paneri. It is rather late now,as the right time is mid Oct- mid Nov. Never mind-next time Insha Allah, with ur support.Thank u nevertheless.

Just for general information.Strawberries is a common crop in Islamabad, even on commercial scale. As I have mentioned earlier, I have grown it myself 2-3 times in my kitchen garden. I saw it even in Lahore yesterday, though not in a good condition. Its runners/seedlings are produced in Swat & supplied all over KPK & Punjab. I am certainly going to grow it next time, Insha Allah. I recommend , all of us who are fond of this must try growing it. Good luck!

Does it mean, I could expect some straws( or strawberries) from you next time for my kitchen garden?
Do you actually plant them in the fields in Sep ? I thought the best time was mid Oct- mid Nov.
