Re: LILIUM UP GRADED
Asim PK, Thank you. What I have gathered from your post on Easter Lily is;
It can be grown each day of the year but flower only from September to May 9 months.
You mean to say that the bulbs can be planted any day of the year.
Planting, to me means putting the bulb in ground watering it and letting it grow as normally.
How long it takes the bulb to put up first bloom?
1 bulb can two to three times re bloom in above period ( Almost every three months).Natural time of flowering is April in Lahore.
In the last picture which plants are Forced and Which are growing naturally?
The last picture is of the year 2010, Keeping in mind the number of plants and time period, you have an unmatched experience of Easter lily cultivation.
Please educate us on how to grow Easter Lilies for best results and pleasure.

Re: LILIUM UP GRADED
My experience with Easter lilies is that they best can be saved provided they are kept in a refrigerator from May till September (same chilling method as used for lilliums).
Chances of their rotting away are higher if left in the ground.

Re: LILIUM UP GRADED
I would also like to know all the details regarding Easter lily, if you could explain chapter wise, I m also growing lilies and this year it was my first experience with this beauty.
I planted my Easter lilies at the end of September just like other lilies but they kept on growing for few months and flowered in late may, and flower power was not impressive may be coz of heat, I left them in soil until they get dormant, in this month they showed some signs of dormancy, today I took them out of soil to refrigerate them, just like my other lilies, their corms were looking not too healthy, the outer most layer of scales were turning black, seems like I have lifted them a bit late.
in your pic it seems like you are planting them in different intervals?
you experience has no match in Easter lily and your guide/help in detail would be highly appreciated, I would specially like to know how to make them re bloom in one season, do we have to replant them or ?
thanking you in anticipation
Regards
Hamad

Re: LILIUM UP GRADED
40 days chilling at 40-45F before sowing is required. Oriental take 60 days. flowers bloomed in 100 to 120 days in lahore. Variation in temperature and mist in medium will result in delayed or early flowering. overcooling will early flowering, low height, reduces flower buds or no flowers. High temperatures shrink the plants and fail to flowers.
ln last picture taller lilium is from chilled bulbs and smaler is not chilled or re planted. Both are same var. Problem is market bulbs ha ve no information of how much cooling olready they received and in wnich contry they receved natural temperatures after harvesting. A grade bulbs are not available below 50 -70 Rs in import. local market bulbs are bgrade residual of cutflowers, expired due to overstorage or disease affected very cheap.

Asim, Thank you Let me remind you that we are all new in this field so require lots of eleborationsWhat I gather from your posts is that;asimPK wrote:40 days chilling at 40-45F before sowing is required. Liliums can be planted any time provided the bulbs have been chilled for 40 days (Asciatic) and 60 days (Oriental) and will bloom in 100-120 days.
What do you mean by over cooling ? lower storage temperature or longer duration?
Variation in temperature and mist in medium will result in delayed or early flowering. overcooling will early flowering, low height, reduces flower buds or no flowers. High temperatures shrink the plants and fail to flowers.
Are you talking about the storage conditions or after planting conditions?
What is over storage as mentioned above?
What would be your advice to a new comer like me. For best results what would be the best time to plant and harvest the liliums.
If I was to grow a single bulb in a pot what size of pot it should be?

Re: LILIUM UP GRADED
Aoa
Storage and chilling are different , storage can be done at 1C to -1C up to one year which freeze the bulb metabolism up to some extent . I discussed chilling temperature 4C to 6C used for 6 weeks in order to off season bulb sprout. Natural time of sprout of Lilium in Lahore is November and bloom time in April/May. In fact we have very short winters for Lilium, tulips etc. form mid of October to mid of December and mid of February to mid of March. Other months are frosting ,foggy and low sun light bad conditions for Lilium. If bulb shoot emerge occurred in refrigerator it mean they are over-cooled. High temperature up to 15C for chilling increase shoot emerge days but maximum sufficient for 60 days. Each day of chilling gradually reduced the quality of Lilium bulb. So Lilium bulbs should be accurately chilled as planned in order to plant in soil and bloom in favorable climate i.e. mid of December or February. All Easter lily blooms are long-lasting more than 25 days in February while in April they expired in just 3 day and bulb development is also weaken. Early growing of Lilium have also bonus of re-blooms in April and May but they late blooms weaken the bulb for future. If Lilium complete its cycle in December then will re-sprout in February as natural chilling in January. I have no such information in pot growing but I often found some Easter lily roots in soil depth up to 12 inches. I will upload blooms in pot may show in early September. Bulbs plant in July not flowered and also size of plants is not more then 5 Inches, shrieked and just like bonsai plants, will re-sprout in November. It can re-chilled 40 days in order to bloom in Fab and re-bloom naturally in late spring.

Re: LILIUM UP GRADED
Hammad Sb. each lilium class and sub class even cultivar/variety has its own temperature ranges. My easter lily is hot climate cultivar 30C-35C growing. Asiatic & orientals bulbs need to Chilled from august and sow in first weak of Oct and when flowered in Feb, prevent second shoot emerge by break the new one head. bulb will develop in March and April dig up in May and store at accurately 18C-20C or 1C to -1C
till mid of August and then chilled at 4C. That is Lilium cycle for cooler climate varieties. Rot is also aggressive for new varieties and chilling or early grow forcing is more vulnerable of diseases to lilium so keep it eye on growing activity.
