Gloriosia

Post by Muhammad Arif Khan »

Gloriosa tubers stored in moist peat are showing sprouting, strange irrespective of size/shape all have only one eye and there is absolutely no sign of any roots on any of them. I have also never seen any roots on UN potting them.
Are these tubers actually their root? I need the information for selection of pots for them

Sir Gee
With proper carethe Smallest one can give flowers . As I have advised earlier, Mid of April is the best time for planting Glorosia Tubers in Lahore.
Big size (24 inch) Piaylla is enought for three to four tubers. Mix equal part of cow manure, sand and bhal with small amount of DIP. Place this Bowl (Container) under a tree where filtered sun is available or direct sun light to only upto 12'0 clock.
You will see, there will be load of blooms with your vines.

A few days back I found this plant of left back tuber.

I promptly planted all except eight small ones.
Kaleem Sb is of the opinion that even the smallest tuber should bloom. These tubers are two each for Khabbab, Dr. Khan, Irfan and Kaleem. Please arrange their collection or should I plant them each in7 inch pot for later collection.

Sir Gee
Plants/vines are looking healthy but their growth show "lack of sun light", need more day light. Use some old/dry plants for support or these trellis are best for Gloriosias

With proper care "One centimeter long tuber" can grow a good size plant which can produce flowers .
Thank you so much for one tuber. On this Saturday, my colleague will visit and collect the Tuber with Fragrant Crinum bulb and white/blue Wisteria vine. Is this okay Sir Gee?

Khabbab, even in this picture there are no roots, it appears the roots and stem grow and die togather, and there is one stem to each tuber.
I was interested in root system to assess correct pot size for the tubers.
