BRIG. Sb,

What is the size of your Corm ? are your glads long variety 3.5 to 4 feet tall or the shorter ones ?

For 2 inch corm size ,long variety i use 14 inch pot and 2 corms max. in a pot

Just plant 1 inch deep so it will produce baby cormlets after season.

I believe it is better to wait until 15th November, they will be prone to fungus in temp now.

Moreover try to put two or three corms in ground so as to judge the reason in case of complete failure in pots.

Sir you easily put large sized 6-7 corms with adequate spacing between them in a 14 inch pot They can be planted now. I have stopped growing gladiolus for the past 4 years. I will check tomorrow to see if I have some glad plants in my soil beds. Once grown tiny cormlets from the original corm tend to emerge. If I have any glads shall give them to you.
Regarding the depth of the corn in the soil they need to be placed in the soil slightly lower than twice the size of the corm.

Regarding the placement depth of the glad corm it should be at least 3 times the size of the corm as stalks of fully grown glads tend to tip over if the corm is not planted deep.

Brig. Sb.

I found one photo for you from my Library, this was 2011, i put 5 glads in one pot.
4 of them bloomed, but i personally donot agree as the corms became weak for next year bloom.

Glads corms keep increasing their size every year, unlike many they are not much happy if pot bound or confined together. If you want to use them for one season then it is ok.

Regarding the depth , i personally donot agree as in the pot there is a very little space for the roots, sowing deep makes the space even lesser , not only glads but all bulbs should not be put at a greater depth in pots , so as to enable them to grow roots freely and absorb energy for next blooms, Glads stalks have to be supported because of their height irrespecive of the depth of corms. the reason of putting glads near to surface is to get more cormlets for next season.

Adnan your Glads are great looks like Nova Lux to me.But are,t they too much what i want to say four or five per pot of this size.Glads reprodouce new corms each year & need a good room for that purpose. They also increase the size of the corm every season is,t it like that. Its my past experince that 6 inch distance must be given among the corms. The depth really depends on the soil type depending on the variety.I am specifically talking of the giants which i still love.

yes you are right they are Novalux, a prolific bloomer and very much hardy, i have these bulbs for the last 4 years now. Corms have increased to a size of 4 inch, I agree Glads need a space and in this phot i put all in one pot by kaind of a mistake, presently iam not doing like thsi and use to keep 2 max. in a 14 inch pot.

Friends
I am going to grow glads seriously so would like to know all about them.
To get going I have been gifted about 50 corms 2 inch dia and smaller, I have no idea what variety they are.
The pots are out, I must plant them in the ground 6 inches apart.
As the foliage dies I should dig the corms wash and dry them before storage.
Storage at room temp or in a fridg?
I also want to purchase some new corms, red, yellow and white, tall having large flowers, what variety and size of corm do you recommend?
