Then there are few even in rose lovers who are interested in ID.

The Facebook page of the forum can be made to use too. Occasional snippets about certain roses with pics can be posted and then the link given to the database for more information.

There are few regular contributers on the forum as it is so I don't think expectations should be too high. Hope should be.

That is a good idea to use facebook for occasional snippets of roses or other plants. I was thinking that can we make a feature of "Plant of the Week" and "Rose of the Week" for the gardening facebook page. A. Y. Khan sb has made that page relatively popular. KBW sb is humble enough to tell me that he does not want to "advertise" his work elsewhere except this forum. Of course none of the members has any interest in commercial aspects of webpages. The compilation of Pakistani Garden Plants is solely being done for educational purposes.

The key idea is that we should know the names of our plants growing in our gardens. Imagine a house full of people and we do not know who they are! Secondly, once we know the name we can find a lot of information about that particular plant from reliable web pages and books. Although the database is purely educational - people do not know about its existence and that is my only concern for the time being.

Yes that is great Idea that to make a page on facebook and then gradually experienced and experts will also join the group and in this way it will be very easy to make database.

M Farooq wrote: KBW sb, this raises an important point which we discussed once on phone. The reason for the lack of enthusiastic participation support (which you have been lamenting for a while) is because a majority of people does not know if a local Pakistani rose database exists! Here in this forum we have approx. 10 regular keen contributors. And that's your audience, period.
Farooq bhai, I am talking about the forum members here and not other people. And I believe there are enough forum members who are interested in roses and keep talking about them in other threads. I just want that what they write in different threads about a particular rose (which is actually their practical experience of that rose), they should share in this thread as well. And experience sharing is not like writing an article about a rose. It may just be a one line comment like "My ABC rose stopped flowering when the temperatures crossed 40*C or the growth of rose ABC was far better than rose XYZ though the soil and growing conditions were same etc etc. Or they may just ask a question like would it be feasible to grow rose ABC in Bahawalpur etc. Am I asking too much? Another reason for lack of participation could be that contrary to my thinking that this database is helping the members, it is actually not helping any member meaningfully in enhancing their knowledge about roses and if that is the case than the whole purpose and objective of undertaking this project comes under question.

M Farooq wrote:I know so little about roses that I can only appreciate what you are doing. What you and others might do is popularize this forum to increase readership and increase participation. Facebook could be an easy advertisement place for increasing readership and participation.

A colleague mentioned an example that
1. If someone beats the drum with both hands to tell the world that he is doing useful work, then people recognize soon that he is doing nothing except beating the drum.
2. If someone is working with both hands - nobody knows that he is doing something useful. He exists as an unsung hero.
3. The ideal case is to reserve one hand for work and one hand for beating the drum to tell the world that the other hand is doing something useful.

The first example belongs to our hukumraans and second one applies to you! So increase your audience elsewhere as well. I am sure out of 18 crore people in PK, there will be rose lovers who do not know about this database.
I would like to stay in second category. No personal recognition is intended. It is just about providing a platform to the fellow members where they can learn about roses and know about first hand experience of other experienced members regarding growing of a particular rose in Pakistan. Through mutual sharing of information, we all learn.

Rafique's Comments:
Bloom captured on 14 Oct.
Bloom size is still small because of heat but increase in size with the reduction in temperature..
It is fragrant but intesity is reduced. Remained in full sun through out summer . Proved good heat resistant.

KBW's Comments:
Great effort Rafique bhai. This is what is desired. Just post the information in any form and I will put it at the right place. In time, we will have comprehensive information about many roses available to us and it will not be scattered in 15 threads rather will be all at one place, easily accessible through the hyperlinks given on page 1.

Velvet Fragrance
Its also proved good heat resistant. Remainded in soil bed at location which received full sun in May-Jul till 4 pm. Repeatedly blooming. Flower size and fragrance reduced in summer. Now again gaining its color and fragrance. Image taken on 14-Oct-13. Good to have it. Lightly pruned in first week of Oct which resulted multiple buds.
