Introduction from Newgardener

Post by Newgardener »

Salam to all Enthusiastic Gardeners
My name is Mehr Khan living in Islamabad.Having a lot of passion for gardening but have no space while living in rented house. Now shifted to a new house couple of months back.I am interested in container gardening due to a small KIARI in front of the house. So decided to fulfill my hobby at balcony and roof top.Came across the Pakistangardening forum while searching for roses information. Its a surprise for me to see tons of information about every topic about gardening.

It was really very interesting to read about the experience of different senior members.Looking forward to have advise from everyone. At the moment i am interested in all kind of plants which can grow in a container.

Best Wishes for all Nature lovers

Salam Dear All

Actually i was late a bit in buying and re-potting my plants, started from Feb.14 till end of Mar.2014.A lot of unknown plants which is now mostly known to me with the help of pakistangardening forum;Identifying plants.

As in the past i think gardening is the name of just buy a plant and put it in the container and place it where you want only for ornamental purpose. But now my concept has changed about the gardening due to reading about the thought/ideas/experience of various senior members in the pakistangardening forum. It is some thing creative and the contribution from an enthusiastic gardener in beauties of the Nature. Will have a lot of question in the future regarding gardening and hoping for your kind help.

Thanks to all the members of this forum who has contributed their best to the subject which definitely will promote the familiarity of gardening hobby in our country.(specially new people like me)

Thank you very much and God bless you all.

Walaikum Assalam,
If I can grow roses in pots on cemented floor in Karachi why can't you grow it in Islamabad. But it is late to plant roses now anyone from Islamabad can guide you better.

Walaikumsalaam

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy learning about the plants you grow.

One of things to think about is the seasons and if you can achieve interesting attractive blooms or foliage all the year round, so you may enjoy flowers for example when roses are in their resting period. If you achieve a pot or two of perrenials in bloom every month of the year then you are on your way to having passed your first test.

One of the ways I found this to be successful is to purchase plants once every couple of months then that way I could see the blooms or the foliage and how it would help my overall plan. Just be mindful though that some nurseries do force plants so that they bloom out of season for example some plants that require chilling periods are kept in the cooler climes of Kashmir and only brought to the hot plains when they are in bloom and likely to look unusual and thus sell in the nursery.

Good luck and enjoyment with your hobby

regards
