I dont think it is Yulang-Yulang.
That was March. Bauhinia is not at all fragrant; they might have very mild fragrance if smelled with a deep breath.

The "dwarf" ylang-ylang is not a true ylang-ylang from which oils are distilled (which I have been searching for a while). The genus is the same though, it is Cananga sp. Have you seen true ylang-ylang in Pk? I am curious to know about its availability.

I am also looking for orange variant of Michelia "alba".
There are groups of Bauhinia trees in Garrison golf club Lahore, they bloom in November, the fragrance is heavenly and fills the air all around.

I grew a Ylang Ylang tree, it did not come up to my expectations so it had to go. Now I have acquired a vine from Pattoki, it is growing well, I hope it will earn its position.

I think the reason of Bauhinia's fragrance is thesheer number of flowers. What colour are they? The pink (our local Pakistani Bauhinia) ones do have a mild fragrance but I can imagine when their number increases drastically in thousands, the fragrance would be much more dramatic.

You will not be disappointed by Ylang ylang vine...I have smelled it and the fragrance was unique and fruity. I assume we are talking about this flower?

Hmm you are testing my memory, because I purchased them 8-9 years ago :-)

Have you seen the chain of nurseries near Federal Urdu University (Gulshan Campus)- previously called Urdu Science College?
Among them Shalimar nursery is the best in terms of plant quality and health.
1) Passion flower was commonly available - it is known by that name.
2) Lignum vitae is also very common in Karachi- nursery men call them Lignum or Ling-gum. Keep in mind it is a VERY slow grower. So buy a large plant in terms of age. It is perhaps also mistakenly called chaandni.
3) Antigonon was from Karachi University nursery (not convenient to go inside, if you are an outsider). Try Shalimar as well. It is not a common plant in Karachi.
4) Petrea was from Shalimar - it is known something like Pat-tay-ria or some distortion thereof.

Hope you find them!

Muntasir, please see the entry on Merremia tuberosa, in the flora database (see the index).

Wood rose is very rare, I only saw it at two places in Karachi long time ago (> 10 years). It is pretty common in Assam of India where it grows wild. Finally, I had to order seeds from USA since local nurserymen did not recognize it. Search online vendors if you are interested. Keep in mind that it will not grow in a container, it grows up to 40-50 feet high easily.
