i think you are right, i just shared what i see them doing

1) Prune the bush when you see it is breaking dormancy
2) Hoe the soil up to six inches depth
3) Mix well rotted manure
4) Mix NPK granules a handful in the soil
5) Water deeply

Izhar you are very right.i use to do the same for many years.Prune roses,hoe deeply,mix well rooted manure plus NPK granules & water deeply.The job is done.In summer i do not hoe because the weeds keep cool the stems & roots of the roses.Hoeing in roses is only one times a year.i mean deep hoeing (6 inch).

Yes Farhan is right it depends on the plants.also on the season.in spring you need hoeing every week.what i mean it also depends on the growth of the weeds.Hoeing is very important.
