I planted this tree few years back for the purpose of shade. It is a very fast grower. Last year i cut it back to control its size. I have grown tired of it. Can anybody suggest a replacement.
Or what do you think of this tree?

Growth is a sign of life. Every tree you'll grow for shade will continue to grow upwards and you have to trim it. I like Conocarpus (the tree in your picture) because it is almost evergreen, pest free and shady. Ficus would be another option but it attracts leaf pests. Another very "elegant" tree is Lignum. It grows very slowly (buy a large tree to begin with); its canopy and flowers are very beautiful. See google images for Lignum vitae. Check if it can grow in Lahore easily.

I would cut all lower branches leaving 1-3 up right ones to form a canopy at the roof level or even higher.

I will see about lignum. Arif sahab the branches of this tree swing very easily. The get long very quick and then fall to a side after a storm. That is why this plant is usually out of shape.

Lignum has the hardest / strongest wood in the world, good for you if you are worried about storms :-)

I need a suitable plant to use as hedge in the sea view area where the winds are pretty strong in summer. Can you suggest one?

Initially I had used the shrub commonly known as Dumdum. It was ideal as hedge as it creates complete optical barrier. You can't see across it. However, it is prone to disease. So I planted conocarpous. But this may look good but it does not create the ideal opaque hedge as desired. Is there any other shrub which could be used which resists disease while providing a completely opaque hedge?
