Ixora - when to transplant?

Post by aykhan »

I have some ixoras I want to relocate in my lawn. I'm wondering what's the best time to transplant them. I worry transplanting in winter since they are very weak and stressed in the cold and might not recover while I wonder if it's a good idea to transplant in monsoon when their active growth period will be disturbed.

They will recover fast from transplant shock during monsoon and will start new growth soon, followed by blooming...

That's good news for me since I am planning to make most of my annual beds into perennials to decrease the hassle. Would you suggest the same for gardenias or wait till winter?

Gardenias require similar conditions as ixoras.. in my opinion they can be transplanted during monsoon as well..

I don't think Ixoras have a root rot problem with constantly moist soil but gardenia roots are sensitive. Do you think they can take two months of wet soil which is possible seeing how much rains we've been having for the past 2-3 years.

As long as gardenia is healthy and growing, the wet soil will not pose a problem... you can add sand to ensure better drainage of the soil bed..
